SOUTH CAROLINA, S.C. (WCBD) – Throughout November, Coastal Carolina University will honor veterans, service members, and military families through its 2026 Salute to Service: Step Up for Those Who Served campaign.
CCU’s Step Up for Those Who Served campaign is a monthlong series of opportunities to remember, recognize, educate, and support CCU’s military community.https://mmamp.counton2.com/avi/?key=tsoswq6k#amp=1
A new feature of the 2026 campaign is the 988,000-Step Challenge, a free virtual event throughout November inviting the community to join a CCU team and reach a goal of 988,000 steps. The 988,000-step goal highlights 988 and the Veterans Crisis Line, which is designed to raise awareness about veteran mental health.
Citizens can join the CCU: 2026 Step Up for Those Who Served group on the StepUp platform and invite their communities to participate. Throughout November, campaign updates will be posted to display the community’s progress and encourage participation.
“Step Up for Those Who Served is intentionally inclusive. You do not have to be a veteran, live near CCU, or complete a certain number of steps to participate. Whether someone contributes steps while walking across campus or joins us from hundreds of miles away, every step becomes part of one collective effort,” said Nicole M. Arcuri-Sanders, professor of counselor education and faculty collaborator with Military and Veteran Services. “Our hope is that 988,000 steps also create an opportunity to increase awareness of veteran mental health and the Veterans Crisis Line while bringing our community together in support of those who served.”https://e7b14a47bba7b7ed8400fec6486cfd05.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-45/html/container.html?n=0

Additionally, Purple Hearts Across Campus will highlight CCU’s Purple Heart University title while sharing messages about the military-connected community.
A Step Up Wall at Thompson Library will also feature a photographic display honoring CCU faculty, staff, and student veterans and allow community members to share messages of support.
